Published in 2009, Thomas Padlan-Malm [nee Malm] began his hope to see American businesses correctly set vision and compete to be excellent with his book, ”ABSOLUTELY VULNERABLE, The Crisis of Strategic Business Planning in America.” The manuscript discusses how the American marketplace is available to anyone who approaches it with a bottom-up, long-range strategic planning approach. He is a firm believer in directing personnel through a formal Management by Objective process that begins from an informed CEO’s strategic vision with action plans that are connected and assigned support and accountability throughout the organization. He tells about how the strategy was created by the only surviving typewriter manufacturer from the 1980s Office Products Industry, which grew from $200 million to $1 billion in nine years. Padlan-Malm had also written a series of articles featuring the strategic leadership of Lehigh Valley’s major corporations for VALLEY SOCIAL MAGAZINE entitled ”Power Players.” The series became the book, TRANSFORMING TO GROW. IF I WERE POSTMASTER GENERAL and AMERICA THROUGH THE WINDOW continue his mission, with the United States Postal Service’s management between 2020 and 2024 as an example of wrong thinking, and a clarifying view of American business and politics as it transfers through the Postal Service window.
